Josh Miller and Tim Jackson attended the Arkansas premier for Joey Lauren Adams' Come Early Morning last night in Little Rock. The event was a benefit for the Oxford American --- and was a big success all around. Ashley Judd is receiving some of the best reviews of her career for her performance as Lucy Fowler in Adams' directoral debut from her original screenplay. Many people from the Arkansas filmmaking community were present at the premier as were a number of well known Arkansans including Mary Steenburgen.

Writer/Director Tim Jackson, Editor Ken Shaw (prinicpal, Soaring Eagle Pictures, LLC) and Composer Hans Stiritz have been working this week on the edit for the Category One film "Where's My Close Up, Mr. Thornton?" The work is being done at the post-production facilities of Soaring Eagle in Nashville, TN. Jackson expects that the picture will be locked in the next week or two and final touches will be made to the sound and color before being submitted to major festivals this fall.

Congratulations to Tim Holder (lead actor in C1E's Where's My Close Up...) for winning the best actor award during the recently completed 2006 48 Hour Film Project in Little Rock, AR. Holder was the lead in a film that was written, directed and produced by several other crew members who participated in "Where's My Close Up..." Congrats also to Phil Motley --- director of the 48 Hour film which also won Best Picture and will compete nationally.

Principal photography is set to begin this week on a new Category One film --- a short called "Where's My Close Up Mr. Thornton?". Tim Jackson will be directing from a script he wrote with Tim Holder -- the film's lead actor. "Where's My Close Up..." picks up on the life of an out of work actor making ends meet in rural Arkansas ten years after his "big break" in Sling Blade. The production includes several Sling Blade alumni including Rick Dial and Natalie Canerday.

Category One's "Miles From Home" screened for the first time in public today as part of the Shorts Reel 1 program in the annual South by Southwest Film Festival. The venue was the Alamo Drafthouse (S. Lamar) in Austin, TX. The film was generously received by a near capacity audience. The Shorts Reel 1 is a strong program with a total of seven films. Standouts included "A Short Film" and "K7". C1E's Tim Jackson and Josh Miler are in Austin for the festival. Tonight they attended the world permiere of Andy Dick's "Danny Roane: First Time Director". Members of the cast on hand for the premiere included writer/director/star Andy Dick; Mo Collins (MadTV); Anthony Rapp (Rent); Michael Hitchcock (Best in Show);
and actor/co-director Marshall Cook.

A big congratulations goes out to Eric Steelberg (director of photography for Category One's "Miles From Home") and the rest of the cast and crew of "Quincenera" --- which took top honors last night at Sundance winning both the Grand Jury and Audience awards in the Dramatic Competition. Eric was DP on "Quincenera" and represented the film well in two panels at Sundance last week. This is the first time a feature shot in HD has won both awards. Way to go Eric!

Congrats to Joel Moore (director and star of Category One's "Miles From Home") on his outstanding performace in "Art School Confidential" (directed by Terry Zwigoff). Tim Jackson and Josh Miller attended the world premiere of "Art School..." last night at Sundance with Joel and "Miles..." co-writer Jeremy Danial. The premiere was at the coveted venue of the Eccles Theater with a sold-out crowd of over 1200. Joel was an audience favorite in the comedy which has been picked up by Sony Classics. Miller and Jackson were also guests at the after party for the premiere which included among others, director Zwigoff, writer Daniel Clowes and cast members Max Minghella, Sophia Myles, Ethan Suplee, Matt Keesler, John Malkovich and producing partner Lianne Haflon, composer David Kitay.

Actor/Director Joel Moore is wrapping up the finishing touches on C1E's "Miles From Home" in Santa Monica today. We've enjoyed working with some of the best post houses in LA --- the Whitehouse for editing, Juice West for sound design, Company 3 for telecine and Red Car for online, titles and optical. The work is almost done and we look forward to the film playing festivals in the US and abroad in the coming year.

"Miles From Home" wrapped early yesterday in Los Angeles after a full three day shoot. The short film, written by C1E's Josh Miller & Tim Jackson and Jeremy Danial was directed by Joel Moore and features Moore and Mercedes McNab in the lead roles. Says C1E's co-founder Josh Miller: "We couldn't be happier with what we're seeing in the dailies. Its fantastic. This cast and crew gave a incredible effort this week and you can see it on the screen." The film is already in the hands of editor Cory Livingston at Whitehouse Post in Santa Monica. Post production is being expedited in hopes of the film making it into some of the early 2006 festivals.

"Chrystal" was shot on location in Eureka Srpings, AR and stars Lisa Blount as Chrystal and Billy Bob Thornton as her husband, Joe. C1E's principals Josh Miller and Tim Jackson attended the opening and after-party, which were both strongly supported by Central Arkansas' burgeoning film community. North Little Rock native Joey Lauren Adams was also in attendance. Adams is nearing the start of production on her own directorial debut to be shot in Little Rock this spring.

Josh and Tim returned to Little Rock tonight after an extremely productive trip to the Coast. Included in the trip were meetings with industry leaders at Creative Artists Agency, Brillstien/Grey Management, Patricola/Lust PR and our good friends at Area 51 Films in Santa Monica. Tim and Josh met with actor/writer/director Aaron Ruell to discuss his latest project and the potential of shooting it in Little Rock. A decision on that will be made very soon. Ruell is best known for playing "Kip" in the breakout hit "Napoleon Dynamite". He is a gifted photographer, writer and director. Two of Aaron's short films played to enthusiastic receptions at Sundance this year. Julia Ruell, Aaron's wife, is an outstanding editor. She cut both of those of films. Tim Jackson met Aaron and Juila at Sundance this past January and began an ongoing conversation about working together in the near future.

Josh and Tim are wrapping up a whirlwind trip to LA. The guys had a late night get together at Canter's Deli on Fairfax tonight with David Hodges, Mark Colbert and Steven McMorran of the band Trading Yesterday. TY is in heavy rehearsals for the media appearances and touring dates that will follow the release of their first single from their EPIC Records debut. They are rounding out the touring band with other musicians from Arkansas and they're sounding great.

Jackson met with producer/director Preston Lee on development of the C1E short that Lee will be directing in LA. A production start date of May 3 has been set for the short. In addition to the screenings Tim also met with several other independent writers/directors about bringing their future productions to Arkansas.

Category One has optioned the film rights to another Arkansas story with great heart and heat. The as-of-yet untitled project is based on the life of a Little Rock woman who was a pilot in the WASP program during WWII. She flew P-51 Mustangs from the US to England.
