OUR RESEARCH
The Category One Team looked at the top 50 grossing movies (domestic B.O.) from each year for the last four years. Of those 200 movies we eliminated everything that was a sequel, everything that was based on a novel, short story or comic book and everything that was a remake or an adaptation of a TV show.

We discovered that about 25% of the top grossing films came from original ideas or spec scripts. Excluding Spider Man and Lord of the Rings from the sample group, you’ll see that the original/spec script projects performed as well or better than the others.

Category One is leveraging this research by focusing our business on original ideas from non-traditional sources.
